Maya is a sweet, petite 6-year-old girl who weighs about 35 pounds and has a heart nearly as big as her adorable floppy ears.
Her journey began in Ukraine, where she was rescued with an injured paw. After receiving treatment, care, and plenty of time to heal, Maya found safety with a loving family and has made wonderful progress. She has gained confidence, learned basic commands, and now enjoys long, peaceful walks around the neighborhood. She has also made several dog friends and especially enjoys spending time with calm, friendly dogs.
Maya is gentle, quiet, and deeply devoted to the people she trusts. She rarely barks, is not reactive, walks nicely on leash, rides well in the car, and is both potty trained and crate trained. She has never had an accident in the home. She is happiest curled up comfortably on her bed, resting beside her person, enjoying chin scratches, or accepting her favorite chicken treats.
Although Maya is not particularly interested in toys or fetch, she loves playing and socializing with other dogs. She previously lived with a small senior dachshund and was exceptionally patient with him—even when he tried to steal her food. A home with another friendly, confident dog would likely help Maya feel secure and continue building confidence.
Maya is looking for a calm, adult-only home. A home with older, respectful children may also be considered if they understand how to interact gently with a sensitive dog. She needs patient people who will allow her to adjust at her own pace, encourage her without overwhelming her, and give her the companionship and emotional support she deserves.
Maya may take time to trust, but once she does, she will be a loyal and loving companion who wants nothing more than to quietly share her life with you.
