Thor is a 6 year old German Shepherd rescued from the shelter in June, and quickly won the hearts of his foster family! When he was rescued, it was clear that he had some issues with his hind legs. After consultations with a vet, neurology specialist, orthopedic surgeon, it was determined that he did not need surgery, but that he would benefit from physical therapy. He has already had a couple of sessions and the exercises seem to be helping his back legs get stronger. His foster family reports that his demeanor has changed significantly since they first received him. When he first arrived, he was not feeling his best – he had an upset stomach, and he was on crate rest due to his leg injuries. Now with some pain management, and alot of TLC, his personality is shining! He is affectionate, loyal, playful, and very smart. Every morning he loves to get spoiled with a full rub down. He is quite food motivated, which has made training very easy! He loves to play fetch, and will often bring you a toy to ask you to play. He loves going on walks (not too long, as his legs will tire), but perhaps his favorite thing to do is go on car rides! He has a very funny quirk where he spins and spins in circles, especially when he is excited. He sleeps in his crate and he is fully potty trained.
Because of Thor’s hind legs, he will need to be placed in a home where there is carpet or non-slick surfaces, as it is difficult for him to walk on hardwood floors without slipping and potentially injuring himself. He also is not able to climb stairs (a few steps he can handle, and he has no problem jumping in the car!). We would like to place Thor in an experienced adult home or one without small children.
