Thor's Medical Bills
Thor is building muscles (update 4/14/2021):
Hello from Thor, he is doing well at his foster home. It is over a month since after the surgery, Thor is attending physical therapy sessions, working on building muscle strength with the PT Clinic Scout’s House Scout’s House He is in good spirits, and is more agreeable to exercising, then before the surgery!
We put together this little clip about Thor’s past few weeks, check it out, please!
Update on Thor 3/21/2021:
Thor is very happy to be back at foster home! He is eating well and is in good spirits. He mostly is on crate rest. For almost two weeks since the surgery, he was staying at the Veterinary clinic, the doctors were very kind to allow Thor to stay, he was under post surgery medical supervision and also had several PT sessions. Per his doctor his recovery is going smoothly. There is significant improvement in his spine, after the surgical procedure. Thor still has several weeks of recovery ahead of him. His gait is slowly improving, but there is no clear prognosis at this time, how much strength his back paw will gain. We will be working with Physical therapists and keep consulting with his veterinary doctors.
Thank you so much, to all, who was supporting Thor, and helping out with surgical and post-operative costs
Update on Thor 3/30/2021
Thor is comfortably recovering from his surgery at his foster home. He has been very cooperative, doing his daily physical therapy exercises. He is in good spirits – often entertaining himself with his favorite tennis ball!
Operation Day (3/8/2021):
Thor was taken to the UC Davis clinic by his amazing foster Amie yesterday afternoon.
We just received a call from the clinic that he’s doing fine, a little anxious. They’ll be inducing him at 8am and I should expect to hear from them again sometime this afternoon, after the surgery.
The surgery went well today! They took out the bulging pieces of disks. Today Thor is resting on painkillers, so they are not pushing him to do anything, just letting him rest. Tomorrow morning they will take him out for a short walk to see how he does. We will just have to see the next few days whether he is walking better.
Meet Thor!
Thor is a 6 year old German Shepherd rescued from the shelter in June, and quickly won the hearts of his foster family! When he was rescued, it was clear that he had some issues with his hind legs. After consultations with a vet, neurology specialist, orthopedic surgeon, it was determined that he did not need surgery, but that he would benefit from physical therapy. He has already had a couple of sessions and the exercises seem to be helping his back legs get stronger. His foster family reports that his demeanor has changed significantly since they first received him. When he first arrived, he was not feeling his best – he had an upset stomach, and he was on crate rest due to his leg injuries. Now with some pain management, and alot of TLC, his personality is shining! He is affectionate, loyal, playful, and very smart. Every morning he loves to get spoiled with a full rub down. He is quite food motivated, which has made training very easy! He loves to play fetch, and will often bring you a toy to ask you to play. He loves going on walks (not too long, as his legs will tire), but perhaps his favorite thing to do is go on car rides! He has a very funny quirk where he spins and spins in circles, especially when he is excited. He sleeps in his crate and he is fully potty trained.
Because of Thor’s hind legs, he will need to be placed in a home where there is carpet or non-slick surfaces, as it is difficult for him to walk on hardwood floors without slipping and potentially injuring himself. He also is not able to climb stairs (a few steps he can handle, and he has no problem jumping in the car!). We would like to place Thor in an experienced adult home or one without small children.
