Update on 3/11/2022:
Luda and her sister keep cooking porridge for 6 hours (usually at night), they make about 80 litters, then it is mixed with meat scraps, that they get from market. The stores are mostly empty, Luda drives between several stores and markets in Odessa, she drives daily through block posts, just searching for anything that can be used to feed the stray dogs. The prices of gas doubled in the area, as well as prices for available food supplies due to shortages.
These are photos from yesterday, we received from Luda. Unfortunately, It looks like are more animals that come to eat, more dogs and more cats become lost and displaced.
Thank you to all, who is helping, and please donate if you would like to help.
It is very hard to find any food supplies, Luda and her sister drive to various stores, in hope to catch something that is not sold out. They also gather the various unwanted meet and poultry cuts (tendons, organs, bones and etc) from the town market.
Help feed homeless and displaced animals in Ukraine (3/09/2022)
Animals do not have nationalities, but they suffer alongside those that do. As matters in Ukraine become worse, and progressively more hostile- stray animals have found themselves smack dab in the middle of a war zone. To make matters worse, the stray population has only risen as citizens escape their homes to find safety. We have partnered up with an incredible woman who has taken in over 130 homeless dogs and cats in the town of Odessa. She gets up early each morning, drives around her town with buckets of porridge mixed with meat scraps and feeds the local strays. She does not have a rescue organization, but she has put her life on the line to SAVE the lives of the animals in her town. She has watched the situation progressively get worse. Going from many starving animals to many animals coming in extremely injured or sick, a ton of them are just downright traumatized by what has been happening. She does her best to care for these animals both medically and emotionally and has 30 of these pups living with her in her home right now. We have just recently learned that military action has begun in her town of Odessa. This kind woman does not have a basement and we are hoping and praying that she stays safe, we are waiting on any word from her. The only word we heard was that this incredible woman didn’t miss the animals feeding that she does every day, regardless of the imminent danger! We are wanting to raise funds to support Luda (the woman’s name) , and all the animals she has been so bravely saving. During the past week, we had sent funds, so she and her sister (who feed homeless cats) were able to purchase food, and some medications for older and injured animals. After receiving help from our organization last week, Luda is a truly selfless and kind heart, she shared these supplies with several volunteers in town, and delivered supplies to them too! There are kind persons, who feed animals in neighboring streets and parts of town. Most of them have no cars, and it is now extremely hard to find any supplies in stores for them having no means of transportation. They are simple, often older persons, who love animals. So we would like your help collecting more funds to help Luda and her kind neighbors.
Any amount you can donate towards her mission and the animals she is protecting is a HUGE help. We can tend to feel really helpless with the war that is happening in Ukraine, but this is a way that we can get involved and do some good where there is SO much hurt. We thank you for your kindness and generosity!
