Our sweet Mickey is moved out of the vet. clinic. Since the military actions start today near Odessa, it is not safe for him to stay there.
The only place at this time for Mickey is in back yard of one of the houses. We were told he is doing well, he is well fed, has a warm dog house with straw inside. We are not sure of surgeries planning for now, hopefully it can be arranged in nearest time, but there is too much uncertainty at this time.
We do not have more information at this time, since there is no communications right now, we will be updating as soon as we know more.
We pray that Mickey is safe! We pray for all the people and animals to be safe!
Thank you to all, who supported Mickey’s rescue and care costs.
Mickey is doing well, he is boarded at the veterinary clinic in Odessa. His bloodwork tests are reasonably good, so it was decided that he will be neutered next week. The clinic also plans to have his injured eye removed. Since it can be easily infected the surgery has to be done soon as well. As far as his injured paw, it we be dealt with later, since will require more extensive imaging, and potential surgery. Mickey also got a bath, and we were told that he is such a sweetie, he is happy and cheerful! in spite of his injuries he is in very good spirits! Over the past week and a half due to rapidly changing circumstances we had several plans changes for Mickey.
Since he can not be moved to Kiev (the original plan was that Mickey would be receiving medical evaluations and care there), Mickey will stay at the veterinary clinic in Odessa. He will stay there for at least a next week, for neutering and eye removal surgeries. We do not have a foster in Odessa secured, so are in touch with several volunteers in Ukraine, who help looking for help.
Thank you to all, who had helped and are helping and praying for Mickey!
Odessa, Ukraine
Mickey was a family dog, he had a home, food and safe yard.. One day, the family decided they did not want him anymore, they got a new dog, and threw Mickey out on the street. This dog lived about a year, near his former house, and was sleeping on the other side of his former yard, hiding under the fence from the weather. Within this year, he lost his eye, and has a broken paw that must have healed in some way, but he can not step on it. Mickey does not go far from the area, even though he is no longer welcome there, and someone must have hit him there, to let know that he should leave. Still, he just sits by the nearby road, asks people who walk by for food. It’s a residential street, but not a single neighbor took him in, at least for the night to get to sleep in a warm place…
We heard about poor Mickey, after he was noticed by a kind person, who already has over 30 dogs, that they feed on the streets. We had asked to take him off the street, and help provide any shelter possible. Mickey is temporarily placed in a small clinic in Odessa, and we had lined up to transport him to Kiev, Ukraine this weekend. Today we learned that due to the developments in Ukraine, the transport is no longer safe, and most likely won’t happen this weekend. Mickey is safe, he is resting in a warm place for now. But he will need a thorough medical evaluation, and possibly a surgery for his leg. His eye needs to be operated on as well, and possibly removed.
Our organization has helped homeless animals in Ukraine and Russia, we have helped over 200 homeless dogs and cats to fly to California to their new loving families. We will be doing our best to help Mickey, volunteers in Ukraine work tirelessly to figure out how to help more innocent animals at this time.
We are hoping to fundraise, to fund these efforts. We are thankful to each and everyone who supports the rescue. Help is especially needed during crises and uncertain times like this.
